# 8: J. D. Salinger, Catcher in the Rye
Yes, this is the official novel of teenage angst, and the predecessor of hipsters everywhere. But besides being concerned and obsessed with finding and exposing “phonies” everywhere, Salinger’s Holden Caulfield is one of my most favorite characters. Yes, he is odd, confused, and often does not know what to do with himself. At the end of the day, I think he’s a Romantic looking for his place in the world. Salinger manages to capture the kinds of feelings that every single person has experienced at one point in their lives and creates a work that is relevant and applicable to this day.

I need to read this again. I read it back in high school and was very much in love with it.
